Gabonese authorities this day received 100,000 doses of the Chinese Vaccine Sinopharm, marking a way towards a mass national vaccination program.
In its relentless fight against the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country, the Gabonese Prime Minister Mrs Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda together with the Minister of Health Dr. Guy Patrick Obiang Ndong as well as some officials received a donation from the People’s Republic of China , the BBIBP-Corv, China’s Sinopharm international Corporation COVID-19 vaccine.
Sinopharm’s vaccine has indeed proved to be 86% effective in the United Arab Emirates and has already been approved in other African Countries like Egypt and Morocco.
This Chinese vaccine, second to be approved in Gabon after Russian vaccine Sputnik-V will kick off the national vaccination campaign supervised by the National Committee for the Development of the National Vaccination Plan.
According to the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, the vaccine can protect an individual for at least half a year. Two doses of BBIBP-CorV are recommended for immunization, within an interval of at least 14 days.

Coronavirus disease has brought the world upside down. To curb the virus and stop its spread, globally countries and Governments rely on vaccination.
Dr. Guy Patrick Obiang Ndong stated, “Vaccination remains today our only protection against this pandemic,” because, he admitted, “It will enable us to “cut off” the number of deaths, hospitalizations, and new contaminations to return to a normal life. “
Health workers , security forces, people with comorbidities as well as elderly people are priorities. They will be the first to take the vaccine.
